Mission
To facilitate the creation of a sustainable community owned high speed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband network for Medicine Hat and other Alberta towns and cities. This infrastructure can help future proof our communities, enabling them to compete on a level playing field and deliver the social benefits that similar networks have been shown to deliver elsewhere.
Our immediate goal is to deliver a state of the art high speed high quality optical fibre communications network for Medicine Hat. This network will be eventually be owned and controlled by the local community through a cooperative organization.
In addition to the substantial benefits to the local community, the network will also act as a proof of concept, providing clear evidence that a small scale locally owned fibre network can be profitable and sustainable and indeed provide long term revenue to our communities.
This model can be used as a pilot to facilitate replication and scaling up in order to enable other communities, especially across South East Alberta and the Highway 3 Corridor, to enjoy those same benefits.
